The best honeymoon destinations for every month of 2026, matched to weather, crowds and cost - Maldives, Italy, Bora Bora, Japan, Africa and more.
Short answer: the best honeymoon destination is the one whose dry season matches your wedding date. The Maldives and the Caribbean peak December to April, the Mediterranean May to June and September to October, French Polynesia May to October, and East Africa June to October. Booking against the wrong season is the single most common and most expensive honeymoon mistake.
Most honeymoon lists rank destinations. That is the wrong axis. Your wedding date is fixed; the destination is the variable. This guide inverts the usual order.
| Month | Best destinations | Why | Avoid | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | January | Maldives, Thailand, Caribbean | Dry, calm seas, peak conditions | Mediterranean, Southeast Asia monsoon belts | | February | Maldives, St Lucia, Costa Rica | Driest weeks of the year | Northern Europe, Japan coastlines | | March | Bali, Seychelles, Morocco | Shoulder pricing, warm | Caribbean spring-break markets | | April | Japan, Greece, Amalfi opening | Cherry blossom, low humidity | Maldives late-season storms | | May | Italy, French Polynesia, Croatia | Best weather-to-price ratio all year | Southeast Asia wet season | | June | Greece, Bora Bora, Iceland | Long days, dry Mediterranean | Caribbean hurricane window opens | | July | Iceland, Norway, Dolomites | Midnight sun, alpine | Southern Europe heat, peak rates | | August | Tanzania, Kenya, Patagonia ski | Great Migration river crossings | Mediterranean coast, Ferragosto | | September | Italy, Santorini, Sardinia | Warm sea, crowds gone | Caribbean peak hurricane risk | | October | Japan, Morocco, South Africa | Autumn colour, dry heat | Maldives inter-monsoon | | November | Maldives, Vietnam, Mauritius | Season reopening, pre-peak rates | Northern Europe | | December | Caribbean, Thailand, New Zealand | Southern summer, festive | European beach, Indian Ocean storms |
The overwater honeymoon. Maldives, Bora Bora, and a small number of Indonesian and Caribbean properties. Best November to April in the Indian Ocean, May to October in French Polynesia. Budget USD 1,200-2,500 a night plus transfers, which in the Maldives run USD 400-800 per person return.
The Mediterranean honeymoon. Amalfi, Santorini, Puglia, Mallorca. Best in late May, June, September and early October. Cheaper, more varied and less confining than an island resort, but it is a travelling honeymoon, not a lying-down one. See our best time to visit Italy guide for the regional detail.
The safari honeymoon. Tanzania, Kenya, Botswana, South Africa. June to October is dry season and the strongest game viewing. Pairs perfectly with a Zanzibar or Seychelles beach week afterwards - the classic two-centre structure, and the one most couples say they would repeat.
The culture honeymoon. Japan in April or late October, Morocco in March or November, Vietnam in November. For couples who would be bored by day four of a beach.
The cold honeymoon. Iceland, Norway, the Dolomites, New Zealand. Northern lights run late September to March. Vastly under-booked, and priced accordingly.
Notify the hotel at booking and again 72 hours before arrival. Realistic outcomes at the luxury tier: a room upgrade subject to availability, a bottle of champagne and a turndown amenity, occasionally a complimentary dinner or spa credit. Booked through a preferred-partner channel, the amenity stacks on top of a package that already includes breakfast and a hotel credit at no extra rate.
What honeymoon status does not do is fix a bad season. No upgrade compensates for a monsoon.
