About Venice

Venice is a city in northeast Italy built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, relying instead on a network of canals and pedestrian footpaths connected by bridges. Renowned for its Gothic and Renaissance palazzi, the city and its lagoon are a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Travellers visit for its unique urban fabric, extensive art collections, and long-standing cultural traditions, from Carnivale to the craft of Murano glass.

Best time to visit: April–June and September–October. The shoulder seasons offer pleasant temperatures and generally clear skies, with fewer visitors than the summer peak. July and August are typically hot, humid, and the most crowded, while winter can be cool and damp, with an increased chance of 'acqua alta' (high water).
