How these comparisons are made

Luxury Travel Decisions publishes one comparison each week on a choice travellers often find hard: two destinations, two kinds of suite, a villa or a hotel, a cruise or a land trip, or the right season for a place. Each guide sets out what is different, the trade-offs, and who each option tends to suit.

Guides are research-based. Facts such as opening seasons, transfer options and room categories are checked against official operator and tourism sources, which are linked in each article. Prices change constantly, so the guides describe what affects cost rather than quoting rates.

Using a comparison to decide

Start with the question at the top of the guide and the short answer beneath it, then read the section on who each option suits. If you still cannot decide, the deciding factor is usually practical: the month you can travel, the total journey time, or whether you want one base or several. When the choice comes down to two hotels, our hotel comparisons go into rooms, setting and dining side by side.

Step by step

  1. Search or filter by focus area to find a comparison that matches your choice.
  2. Read the short answer and the trade-offs.
  3. Check the linked official sources and current rates before booking.
